I have previously stated my belief that women and men have consumed print and TV images for decades defining beauty as thin….not just slim or athletic but THIN. You can see my thoughts in my post here http://www.notperfit.com/phenomenal-woman-part1-jiggle-wiggle/

In that previous post I maintained that beauty was not defined by being thin but by being Fit and healthy. In this post I would like to add beauty also encapsulates intangibles such as the confidence to own the skin you are in…A.K.A Swag, and having an upbeat outlook on life.

There something attractive about a woman who is confident in who she is and has a positive approach to life. I think people like this have a tendency to smile and people who smile appear more attractive to me than people who do not.

Well what am I trying to say this time you may ask?

………Mainly when it comes to beauty ….Size Doesn’t Always Matter…..

Confidence and positivity does!

However, if you strive to be FIT, meaning have strength, flexibility, balance, endurance and general health,……….

……you will feel more confident and own the skin you are in (SWAG)….which leads to a more positive outlook on life……which leads to more smiles because you are happier…

This is one definition of beauty we can all embrace!

In fact, this is the definition of a Phenomenal Woman …..and as I did in part 1 of my Phenomenal Woman post I defer to Ms. Maya Angelou to say it better than I ever could. I have lifted a few lines from her poem Phenomenal Woman to demonstrate how confidence and positivity can define beauty! (see the entire poem at http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/178942)

I walk into a room

Just as cool as you please,

And to a man,

The fellows stand or

Fall down on their knees.

Then they swarm around me,

A hive of honey bees.

I say,

It’s the fire in my eyes,

And the flash of my teeth,

The swing in my waist,

And the joy in my feet.

I’m a woman

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered

What they see in me.

They try so much

But they can’t touch

My inner mystery.

When I try to show them,

They say they still can’t see.

I say,

It’s in the arch of my back,

The sun of my smile,

The ride of my breasts,

The grace of my style.

I’m a woman

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

Now you understand

Just why my head’s not bowed.

I don’t shout or jump about

Or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing,

It ought to make you proud.

I say,

It’s in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,

the palm of my hand,

The need for my care.

’Cause I’m a woman

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.
