Some believe the media is used to deceive and manipulate.   Regardless if you are liberal or conservative, black, brown, red, yellow or white the media is blamed for telling lies, causing division, defaming individuals, groups, ethnic/religious persuasions and even entire races of people.

Well…..I am going to pile on!

Women and men have consumed print and TV images for decades defining beauty as thin….not just slim or athletic but THIN. As you know, the result has been women of all backgrounds feeling pressured to get thin often using unhealthy methods and men having been a driving force.

Over the past few years there has been more of a push back on this definition …kudos to the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition with three covers issues featuring Hailey Clauson (Model), Rhonda Rousey (MMA Fighter) and Ashley Graham (Plus Size Model)……but there is still quite a ways to go…for sure!

I appreciate the beauty of all women….thin, slim, athletic, thick, full size, BBW, tall, short, black, brown, red, yellow or white….however I believe to the VERY BEST of YOUR abilities only, you should make consistent healthy eating habits and engaging in physical activities part of your life.

As I said many times FIT is not skinny or six pack abs for that matter, Fit is strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility. Healthy is being happy physically and mentally and able to enjoy life.

Soooooo what am I saying…….

It ain’t nothing wrong with a little jiggle in your wiggle……

……In other words ain’t nothing wrong with little stomach pooch, butt dimples, baby with some back, thigh dimples, thighs with some thunder or a little arm meat.

Being fit, healthy and happy in your own skin should be your goals but not based on media images because they ARE NOT REAL for anybody…not even for the models who portray these images and often use techniques that are unsustainable for the purposes of a photo/video shoot.

Whether you are size 8, 10, 14 or 18+…..own it….live healthy and own it……be confident and own It……. Be a Phenomenal Woman and own it!

Poet Maya Angelou said it far better than I ever could in her poem Phenomenal Women……so I borrowed a few lines (see the entire poem at http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/178942)

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.

I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size

I walk into a room

Just as cool as you please,

And to a man,

The fellows stand or

Fall down on their knees.

Then they swarm around me,

A hive of honey bees.

It’s in the reach of my arms,

The span of my hips,

The stride of my step,

The curl of my lips.

The swing in my waist,

It’s in the arch of my back,

The ride of my breasts

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.
